All officials, instructors, assignors and assessors are required to be registered for the current year (the year for which they hold a badge) prior to being involved with any U.S. Soccer affiliated match or U.S. Soccer Federation Referee Program activity.
- Any referee being away from the program for 4 years or less should meet the established recertification requirements, i.e., completing a recertification course. Grade 6 referees in this category will be registered as Grade 7.
- Any referee being away from the program for 5 or more years should meet the established certification requirements for new referees.
Note: Lapsed referees that are returning in the fall cannot referee until the January of the year for which they are certifying. Taking a new referee course cannot be used to circumvent this requirement.
